The Range STL West was built to support people who want to do things the right way. Our experienced coaches support new shooters with clear instruction and an environment that prioritizes safety, confidence and long-term skill development.
Beginner ClassesCCW & Introductory Training
Our introductory and CCW courses focus on safe handling, shooting fundamentals and practical understanding of Missouri laws. These classes are structured and led by instructors who emphasize education over quick checkmarks.
CCW Certification
The Missouri CCW certification is a state-mandated 8-hour course that covers basic pistol safety, shooting fundamentals, relevant Missouri statutes, applicable case law and several other topics. You will also perform your qualification during this class.

This course is geared toward the individual who is looking for training and guidance on drawing a gun from concealment.

Basic Handgun Skills
This course is intended for the individual with little or no firearms experience. It is designed to set the groundwork for safe pistol handling.

Basic Shotgun
Basic Shotgun Training is intended for the beginner who just purchased their first shotgun.

Basic Rifle / Carbine
This course is designed to set the groundwork for safe handling of a modern sporting rifle.

This course is taught by a female instructor for the ladies with little or no firearms experience at all.

We at the Range STL understand that there can be some natural anxiety when handling and shooting a gun for the first time. We want you to feel welcome at our facility and help get you the knowledge and practice you need to grow confidently as a new shooter!
FAQ For New Shooters
Do I need my own firearm?
No. Rentals are available, and many beginner classes include rental options.
How do I know what kind of gun to shoot or buy?
Most beginners don’t, and that’s expected. Training and instruction help you learn what feels right before making any decisions.
Can someone help me choose a firearm?
Yes. Our staff and instructors can help explain differences between firearms based on fit, comfort and intended use.
What should I wear?
Closed-toe shoes are required. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Eye and ear protection is required and available on-site.
Is it okay to feel nervous?
Yes. Many first-time shooters do. Our instructors are experienced in working with beginners and prioritize safety and clarity.
